FERMATA

A sustainable composition project based on the concept of pianist and composer Rubin Henkel. Nantesbuch, Germany in April 2024.
Sound is perceived differently by the various species that inhabit our planet. Sound waves, generated by a source creating vibrations in the surrounding medium, can affect other organisms—even at frequencies inaudible to humans.
Constructing an audible connection with plants will inspire humans to pause and enhance their understanding of the plants and empathy towards their inaudible processes and frequencies.
By embracing the metaphor of the Fermata [ferˈmaːta]—a musical notation symbol indicating a note to be prolonged beyond its usual duration—we seek to illustrate the impact of our actions or inactions on the longevity of plant music.
