Sound is perceived differently by the various species that inhabit our planet. Waveforms, generated by a source creating vibrations in the surrounding medium, can affect other organisms—even at frequencies inaudible to humans.
Through the data sonification of plant biorhythms, the project aims to heighten our awareness of inaudible interactions and, by means of musical collaboration, foster a deeper emotional understanding of our natural environment.
By embracing the metaphor of the Fermata [ferˈmaːta]—a musical notation symbol indicating a note to be prolonged beyond its usual duration—we seek to illustrate the impact of our inactions on the longevity of plant music.
